Forgetmenot

By Silje Tombre

When we do not talk about death we lack a language in the face of mourning and a debate about how we as a society develop the future of death. During the last century death has moved out of our homes and into hospitals and institutions. Modern medicine has changed the end of life and never has death been as feared as it is today.
Taking the form of a democratic memorial the project seeks to engage human beings to talk about death and also emphasize the need for secular space available to all citizens, to better achieve freedom of thought, belief and religion.

The glas sphere serves as a sealed space that creates a self-sufficient ecosystem with light as the only external input. This allows for plants to grow within the sphere without the need for care, as water and nutrients are recycled constantly. Visitors that wish to honor the memory of a loved one they have lost can plant a seed in a glas sphere and further on visit the memorial to see the the memory grow.

Light- and color reflections are changing within the room as the sun travels on its path, creating unique moments and atmosphere.
