Exploring Social Anxiety
By Zilvinas Andriuskevicius
The project is essentially a combination of three different media approaches: a set of artwork, a comic, and an animation. Intended to deliver messages about social anxiety to a specific public. It asks questions such as why some people feel so anxious? And what are the defining features? How is it different in terms of thoughts, emotions and behaviour? Validating these emotions – saying that it’s okay to feel this way and people should not be ashamed. Also it is aimed to make the public question their own behaviour in regards to other people and hopefully change their perception on this matter. Ultimately trying to create a sense of empathy among people, as nowadays it is something rather absent.
Online Comic "UNSTEADY DAY"
One of the attempts at creating a design visual solution was largely influenced by social media based comic artists and their work online. This comic produced unexpected and rather sudden results. The feedback while limited was positive and met well among young audiences who use social media. It proved to be quite effective in educating and engaging people in discussion about social anxiety which was one of the goals for the project. imgur.com/user/Unsteadyday
Animation "CONTACT"
This is the most recent and final iteration of the project design direction. The animation is intended to exist online in a similar fashion to the comic as an open source for a wider reach of audience. It has so far undergone a short control test with school students in Norwegian and Lithuanian schools.
